Videos That Teach Children About Money: Part I

VIDEOS THAT TEACH CHILDREN ABOUT MONEY: PART I


It's never too early to begin your children's financial education. From the age of 4, you can introduce the concept of money and good financial decisions with the videos below. They can all be found on YouTube and used to teach valuable money lessons in a way your children will thoroughly enjoy. 


1. The Berenstain Bears - Trouble with Money (target audience: ages 4+)

The Berenstain Bears is a children's literature franchise. Stan and Jan Berenstain wrote a series of books about the bears which became so famous that an adapted animation of it was later made and aired on TV as well. Many other episodes are also available on YouTube but this episode, based on the franchise's book of the same name, teaches children some great things about money. When Brother and Sister Bear are told that their parents decide what to buy because they are the ones who earn, the two find ways to make their own money. Along the way, they learn how to strike the right balance between being misers and spendthrifts. 


2. Cha-Ching Series ( target audience: 7-12 year olds)

Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids is an award-winning, multi-media financial literacy programme. It was developed by Prudence Foundation in partnership with Cartoon Network Asia and Dr.Alice Wilder. The animated music videos teach children how to earn, save, spend, and donate. There are 21 videos in the series, each 3 minutes long, and these are available on Youtube, as well as on their website. They have additional games on the website, and apps available on the Google Play store and App Store



3. Cashville Kidz Series (target audience: 10 - 12 year olds)

Developed by MoneyTree Asia Pacific Ltd with Maybank Foundation, Cashville Kidz is also an award-winning animated series. It is about a group of children in the city of Cashville and follows their adventures as they learn different financial lessons.There are 24 videos on their YouTube channel, each around 7 minutes long.They have a printable workbook as well, with lessons corresponding to each episode. The workbook is colorful and fun, and can be used independently later when it has been filled in.
